In 1766, John Spilsbury stuck a map of Great Britain onto a piece of wood and sawed it into pieces, marking the birth of the (jigsaw) puzzle.
Initially, it was used to make studying geography easier, but today the game has fans all over the world. It is celebrated on today’s International Puzzle Day.
